Disney Movie Club Review / Info

So, I have always looked at Disney Movie club, but I was pretty dismissive of it. I had been a member of BMG Music Service back in the early 2000s, and I had so many CDs crammed down my throat that it turned into a nightmare. I also thought the selection of movies shown on the Disney Movie Club website and mailers were too limited. Like, how am I supposed to fulfill obligations to order your movies when I have most of them already?! But, then I finally signed up, and I want to share with you everything I wish I knew years ago.

This is a #DisneyMovieClub (DMC here on out) Review – please use the link http://fbuy.me/mYBvc to sign up. Using this link will get you 5 movies for $1 (normally they offer 4 for $1), plus the option of getting 2 more bonus movies at a discounted rate! That’s 7 Blu Ray movies – or DVD if you prefer – for about $20 total!

It is legit, here is a screenshot of my actual order on sign up (your tax will vary by location, and DMC might tweak the offer at any time).

Here’s the details that are hard to figure out as an outsider of DMC:

1. The sign up page sucks. I know that’s a weird to say in a positive review, but I found the site confusing and lacking information. The letters you get in the mail weren’t much better either… After you join, though, the website is fantastic & there are so many more movies options that appear! Like I mentioned above, I was worried that there wasn’t enough selection in DMC since I owned so many Disney films already, but so many more options open up after you subscribe – MANY of which are DMC exclusive releases that you can’t buy in stores! I was pleasantly surprised to find so many shows and even Star Wars titles in the full DMC website.

2. YES, there are DIGITAL COPIES! Even though it does not clarify, many DMC options on the sign up page come with the digital copy. For example, the Marvel Studios titles are the most current version with Blu Ray and Digital Copy included. If you’re worried or not sure, just call their 800 number and verify! I made a list of titles I was interested in and just made a check or “X” as I asked the employee on the phone. They are extremely helpful, BUT, for whatever reason, they don’t want to give you this info over email, you pretty much have to call and ask.

After you join, you will be sent a receipt/bill that will note each movie title, along with what formats it includes. You want to see DC (digital copy) or DHD (Digital High Definition) after each title to confirm you’re getting a digital copy as well as the Blu Ray. Once you have access to the full member website, you can easily see which movies have digital copies AND you can filter your searches for digital copies too! So if you’re like me and rebuying movies just to get the digital codes, they are available on many titles!

3. YES, there are Disney Movie Reward POINTS TOO! Almost every selection has a DMR code (if they would have that code in stores). The points are identical to what you would get from purchasing the movies from a regular store.

4. Most of the pre-order movies include a DMC exclusive item. Right now, I’m noticing that lithographs are a being offered with pre-orders for Captain Marvel, Cinderella, Cinderella 2/3 combo set (DMC exclusive!), Endgame, Aladdin, and Dumbo. The lithographs are smaller than the ones you would get at a Disney Story pre-order, but these are completely free bonuses, which is a nice perk!

I heard sometimes other items, like pins, can occur too, but I haven’t seen that bonus for myself yet. There are some movies that offer a bonus gift for a few dollars more, like a DMC exclusive keychain with Coco or tote bag with Moana (again, though, these add to the overall price of the film and are not pre-order bonuses).

5. They also have exclusive movies too! You can find lots of DMC exclusive releases, many of which have digital codes for films you can’t otherwise get in digital! Return of Jafar/Aladdin and the King of Thieves as one set and Cinderella 2 & 3 as another?! Yes, please! I can’t even get the Aladdin sequels on DVD, let alone Blu Ray with digital!

You also might find movies with exclusive DMC cover art – which wouldn’t necessarily push me to join if I was on the fence, but it is a nice extra perk as a member!

6. You can buy exclusive DMC merchandise that is so cute! I think many of the items for sale are leftover sign up or pre-order bonuses. They aren’t extremely expensive ($11 for a Ralph Breaks the Internet messenger bag), and I like having access to items only available to DMC members as a Disney collector.

7. The purchase commitment isn’t that big. Okay, to get 5 movies for $1 has to have a catch, right? Well, sort of, but only if you’re not buying Disney movies anyways! On the commitment side of things, when you get your 5 movies for $1, you are agreeing to buy 4 more movies at full price. You have 2 years to do this, so it’s not difficult. They also have a featured movie they’ll promote about once a month, which may be discounted or include a free gift to entice you to preorder that title. After you purchase your four movies at “full price” (which varies, the lowest priced movies appears to be roughly $20), you’ll become a DMC VIP which is supposed to have even more great things – but I’m not there yet to fully comment on that.

8. It’s wise to add on the discounted bonus movies immediately after sign up! The sign up website is really secretive on this point, but when you fully check out and submit your order, you will be given a last minute option to add two more movies at a decent discount. It may change, but my total for 7 films was $18.90 before tax, with shipping being free. That is optional, and, yes, that’s a lot more than the $1 you would pay for 5 movies, BUT, because I added the additional 2 movies at the end, my purchase commitment was lowered to 3 movies over the next 2 years instead of 4. So, I have one less required purchase to make later, which saves me some money upfront.

9. The movies cost the same! I pre-order a lot, and the no-brainer to joining DMC is that I’m paying the same price to get these movies with no bonuses (like #Endgame on 4K/Blu Ray/Digital for $30, which is competitive with Target and Best Buy’s preorder price). AND when I buy 1 DMC movie at full price, I get discounts on the other movies I buy in that order! That might sound confusing so let me elaborate, because this is where DMC really pays off for movie geeks!

If I put Endgame in my cart online, it costs $30 and counts as 1 “full priced” movie that I’m obligated to purchase for my commitment. But, then I can add Captain Marvel on Blu Ray/Digital for $18, Captain America 1 on Blu Ray/Digital for $15, Thor 1 on Blu Ray/Digital for $15, Star Wars Return of the Jedi Steelbook Blu Ray for $12, and so on. Not every movie is priced the same, and the discounted rate can change for different promotions, but the current offer is that I receive 40% off MSRP when I purchase one movie at full price (and the most expensive movie will be full price).

So, in a nutshell, as long as nothing else I add in the cart is more expensive than Endgame, it will be discounted (note: many preorders will not be eligible for the discount rates, that’s why I use the preorders as my highest priced movie to get the best rates possible)!

That is phenomenal, because if you’ve been looking to upgrade to digital copies like I have, than you already know that Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel movies RARELY ever go on sale. If you go to Walmart right now, or check iTunes, Iron Man 1 will be at least $20. So even if I use the digital code and give my extra Blu Ray copy away, I’m coming out WAY ahead over purchasing just a digital copy.

10. Don’t forget to respond to featured titles! When you get alerted to you DMC featured title, you MUST respond or else the movie will be automatically sent to you with no options to add in other films for a discount! You can respond by mail or, the easier way, online. If you do want the feature title, just add it to your cart directly and then throw in some other films to make your purchase a better value! Shipping is NOT free after you sign up, but it is cheaper per item to ship multiple movies together. So, as long as you don’t get lazy or forgetful about responding to your featured movie, this club is pretty perfect!

Disney has really good customer service, they really treat their customers right, and I’m very pleased that I gave DMC a chance. It is not Columbia Records or any of the scammer sites. Disney already has all the money, they don’t need to be shady in their business dealings with customers!

I should be at VIP status soon, but I have to wait for my pre-ordered titles to release to get purchasing credit for those. As soon as I am a VIP I will update to let everyone know if there are any difference in DMC.

Otherwise, I hope you enjoyed this review and that it helped you better understand DMC. If it did help you, I would really appreciate it if you used my affiliate link to sign up – http://fbuy.me/mYBvc – again, it’s 5 movies for $1 instead of 4, and you’ll get the option right after checkout to add 2 more movies pretty cheap!
